End World Hanger… One FBOMB at a Time

It’s an epidemic that’s quickly becoming a pandemic, with disastrous effects. Most of us have felt its painful sensations, but it’s those around us who suffer the most when we’re experiencing it.
It’s called “hanger” or “feeling hangry.” It’s that painful, irritated feeling of being without adequate food for long stretches of time.
As a nutrition therapy practitioner and nutrition educator, it’s my duty to shine a spotlight on the need to end world hanger. But before we can end it, we must understand how to recognize its symptoms.
Hanger is caused by low blood sugar. When one goes too long without eating, the amount of glucose available to the brain plummets, causing a drop in brain function. Low brain function leads to low cognition, causing the hangry individual to make rash - sometimes inappropriate - decisions instead of sound ones. Even the sweetest little old lady becomes grumpy with low blood sugar. Remember Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Maybe it was a daily case of hanger that made him so monstrous.
Hanger has many symptoms, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Irritability
  • Impatience
  • Lightheadedness
  • Weepiness
  • Melodramatic tendencies
  • The desire to punch people in the face for no reason
  • Inability to carry on conversations due to obsessive thoughts of food
  • Low moods and mood swings (maybe even taking a swing at someone)
  • Fidgeting excessively and sighing obnoxiously loud while standing in line at the checkout
  • Throwing a pen across the room when it runs out of ink, or just because it's there
  • Rolling one’s eyes in response to everything
  • Saying, “I’m starving to death,” in a whiny tone like a broken record
  • Acting more like a toddler than an actual toddler
  • Not stopping for directions
  • Throwing one’s cell phone out the window because it provided wrong directions
  • Aggressively staring at one’s server when they say, “just five more minutes.”
  • Displaying rude hand gestures while driving
  • Hallucinations of donuts

But why is hanger becoming so prevalent? With hectic lifestyles and busy work schedules, many people aren’t eating balanced meals, or are skipping meals altogether. Maybe you’ve run on caffeine and adrenaline all day, only to drive home hangry and eat the first thing you can rip open, instead of preparing a healthy meal.

If this sounds like you, there is help. Together, we can do our part to end world hanger. If you’re too busy to cook, try FBOMB nut butters instead! They’re full of healthy fats, which give you sustained energy without a sugar crash. In fact, FBOMBs are perfect for any hectic meal situation:

  • Missed a meal? FBOMBs provide instant hanger relief.
  • Going to a restaurant, but not sure how long the wait will be? Tear into a delicious FBOMB to tide you over until your entrée is ready.
  • Is your toddler having a meltdown in the grocery store? FBOMBs fit easily in your purse or pocket so you can take them wherever you go.
  • Long day at the amusement park with your family? Pack FBOMBs for all, and maybe this year, you’ll actually get a picture of everyone not sobbing uncontrollably.
  • Putting on weight because of your daily pantry raid after work? Keep an FBOMB in the car to ease your hanger on the way home.

But the benefits of ending world hanger don’t stop there. Fatty foods like FBOMBs could save you from countless “I’m sorry for what I said when I was hangry” conversations. They could eliminate traffic violations and the dreaded “I’m sorry, officer, I was speeding home because I'm hangry” plea for mercy.

They could even create a more pleasant work environment devoid of hangry outbursts. Copy machine jammed again? Drop an FBOMB. Paper tray empty on the printer again? Drop an FBOMB. Just sat through another one-hour meeting that could've been an email? Drop an FBOMB and keep it moving. You can be the change in the nasty, snappy, population of hangry people by keeping your blood sugar balanced, eating healthy fats, and spreading the word about FBOMB.
Bottom line: When you’re hangry, drop the right kind of FBOMB.
Together, we can, and will, end world hanger.
