Low-Carb Salisbury Steak

Looking for a low-carb twist on an American classic? Look no further.

Salisbury steak is the perfect comfort food. Ground beef, eggs, breadcrumbs, spices, and a hearty gravy all work together to create a delicious, simple, and savory meal.

Traditional Salisbury steak recipes call for breadcrumbs, cornstarch, and regular ketchup (which contains a lot more sugar than you might think [*]).

Our low-carb version uses sugar-free ketchup and crushed pork rinds in place of breadcrumbs. The end result is fewer carbs without any loss of flavor!

Give this low-carb Salisbury steak a try the next time you have some ground beef on hand but don’t want to fire up the grill.

Ingredients Used in This Recipe Include:

Top 3 Health Benefits of This Recipe:

1. Ground beef is packed with iron and other minerals

Red meat sometimes gets a bad rap, but it’s actually very good for you. It’s packed with protein, and also contains large quantities of essential minerals like iron and zinc [*]. Most importantly, the nutrients found in red meat are incredibly high in terms of bioavailability, meaning your body absorbs them at a high rate and uses them to repair tissues and keep you healthy. (This is not the case with many foods, even some that are advertised as being good for you.)

2. Bone broth is full of collagen

The gravy portion of this low-carb salisbury steak recipe is made with two cups of bone broth, a food that’s full of collagen proteins [*]. Collagen is a dense, fibrous protein that your body uses for many things, including building strong skin and hair, repairing organs, and building muscle back up after challenging workouts [*].

3. Dry mustard powder is (surprisingly) good for you

Much of the flavor in the meat portion of this recipe comes from the addition of dry mustard powder. Believe it or not, mustard powder contains several healthy phytochemicals such as carotenoids and phenolic compounds [*]. These compounds help ward off oxidative stress in the body, an imbalance in the body that can eventually lead to diseases like cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes [*].

In short, this hearty and savory comfort food dish packs a powerful punch when it comes to nutrition.
